I am pictured here in the green outfit at Holy Hill in Wisconsin. My dad is in the blue jacket. |
I have used chiropractic care all of my adult life. I grew up with a father who regularly used chiropractic care to help him cope with the daily assaults on his body due to working as a laborer in construction. I would go with my dad to translate for him. As an adult, I used a variety of chiropractors, each with their own style. I will never forget the first chiropractor I used, who would always say, "There are mixers and their are straights and I am a straight." He meant that he did nothing but adjustments. He didn't use any other machines, therapies, or techniques - he was not a mixer. He eventually retired and his son took over his practice. His son was a "mixer" and used different techniques such as electrical stimulation machines. I continued to use chiropractic care, finding a third chiropractor, but found that I had to continually return for the same symptoms. I would get relief, but still, the underlying causes were not addressed.
Then, on a trip to Colorado, I had my usual neck pain and back pain and went to a local chiropractor. She was amazing and used a technique called applied kinesiology. I had never heard of this, but this had a profound impact on me. She connected some emotionally significant events to the adjustments, which provided longer lasting results. I was excited about this and went home to tell my regular chiropractor about the applied kinesiology that this chiropractor used. My chiropractor heard my story and said, "Oh applied kinesiology is like voodoo! It works, but I don't understand it!"
Fast forward another two years and a fourth chiropractor. I had made many changes to get healthier, but still was dealing with chronic fatigue and had difficulty sleeping. My close friend referred me to a different chiropractor and friend, Dr. Mario Gonzalez, who focused on nutrition and practiced applied kinesiology. I was intrigued partly because I had already had a positive experience with applied kinesiology. While I didn't understand it, I had certainly felt the benefits.
Here is his website:
Dr. Mario Gonzalez; Integrative Health Clinic
I was a mess! My body was totally unbalanced energetically speaking, my adrenal glands were shut down, and I continued to have chronic pain in my neck, head, and upper back. Through muscle testing to assess how various forms of stress affect the nervous system (the basis of applied kinesiology) we were able to determine that I had sensitivities to various foods. Dr. Mario encouraged me and strongly recommended that I eliminate wheat, corn, processed sugar, and soy. I followed his recommendations and have never looked back. The results speak for themselves. As I said in the page about "My Story," the first 6 months were difficult. After this, I felt such a difference in my health that I was motivated to keep going. I also took some supplements to help my adrenal glands; helping me to sleep again. I continue to rely on chiropractic care with Dr. Mario for maintaining my wellness. It is really about helping the body to heal itself and providing the right tools such as the adjustments, the right foods, and supplements. Through Dr. Mario's approach, we were able to address underlying causes that continued to impact the functional balance/imbalances of my body. Dr. Mario's approach has had a tremendous impact on my overall health and wellness. I would not be where I am today had it not been for his approach to chiropractic care.
